Whereas, the Department of Greek Life strives to provide support to
Fraternities and Sororities at Texas A&M University; and
Whereas, the image and reputation
of fraternities and sororities is of the utmost importance; and
Whereas, the misuse of alcohol by
college students is at an extremely serious level that detracts
from the mission of higher education and does damage to the
student themselves;
Be it resolved that, the Department of Greek Life expects that
Fraternities and Sororities will abide by the policies set forth
by their National/International Organizations; and
Be it resolved
that, the Department of Greek Life does not endorse events that encourage or support the misuse
of alcohol; and
Be it resolved that, events sponsored in conjunction with the
Department of Greek Life, or primarily advised by staff members
of the Department of Greek Life with
unrestricted access to non members shall be substance free; and
Be it resolved that, no event
shall be co-sponsored with an alcohol distributor, charitable
organization, or tavern (defined as an establishment generating
more than half of annual gross sales from alcohol) where alcohol
is given away, sold, or otherwise provided to those present.
